You send a job to your TSC TE200 and it does the wrong thing: nothing prints, a blank label comes out, it feeds two or three labels for one print, or it prints a single label and refuses to do the rest. You've reloaded the roll, power-cycled the printer, maybe reinstalled the driver — and it keeps happening. This is one of the most common TE200 complaints, and the good news is that it is almost always a print-method, calibration, or driver-size problem, not a broken printer.
The TE200 is a compact desktop label printer that can run two ways: thermal transfer (using a ribbon to melt ink onto the label) or direct thermal (using heat-sensitive labels with no ribbon). It finds the edge of each label with a gap sensor. When it prints blank, you almost always have the print method fighting your media. When it skips or feeds blanks, the gap sensor has lost track of where labels begin and end. And when it prints one label and stops, the Windows driver is usually feeding it the wrong label size. Symptoms: What This Looks Like
- Label comes out completely blank even though the printer is feeding
- Printer feeds one or more blank labels for every print job
- Skips every other label — prints one, feeds past the next
- Prints one label and stops, ignoring the rest of the job
- Content is shifted up or down, or spills across the gap onto two labels
- The status LED blinks red or the printer pauses mid-roll
- It worked fine, then broke after a Windows update or after you changed label size or media
Fix 1: Set the Correct Print Method (Ribbon vs Direct Thermal)
This is the number-one cause of blank labels on the TE200, and it's the first thing to check because the TE200 is a dual-mode printer. The print method has to match the media you physically loaded:

Set this in the TSC Diagnostic Tool → Printer Configuration, or on the Options / Stock tab of the Windows printer preferences. If you just installed a ribbon but the printer is set to Direct Thermal — or you pulled the ribbon out and it's still set to Thermal Transfer — the label will feed and come out empty every time.
Fix 2: Run Gap Sensor Calibration
Calibration teaches the TE200 the exact length of your labels and the size of the gap between them. Any time you change label size, switch rolls, or start seeing skipping and blank feeds, calibrate — it clears the majority of skipping cases on its own.
Method A: FEED-button auto-calibration (fastest)
Press and hold the FEED button until the printer feeds a few blank labels to measure the gap, then release
Send a test print. The label should now print in the right place without skipping.
Method B: TSC Diagnostic Tool (guided)
- Download and open the TSC Diagnostic Tool from the TSC TE200 support page
- Select your TE200 and connection (USB), then open Printer Configuration → Calibrate Sensor
- Choose Gap for die-cut labels (or Black Mark / Continuous to match your media) and run the calibration
- The printer feeds and measures your labels. Confirm the reported label length looks right for your media.
Fix 3: Match the Driver Label Size (Windows 11)
If the TE200 prints one label and stops, prints off-center, or broke right after a Windows update, the driver label size is the prime suspect. Windows 11 often auto-installs a generic driver or keeps a stale label size, so the printer stops after what it thinks is the last label — or shifts everything down the roll.
Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners and select the TE200
Open Printing preferences and set the label width, height, and gap to match your physical media exactly (to the millimeter)
Confirm the print method and darkness on the same screen match your media, then apply
Print a Windows test page. If the test page is correct but your app still fails, the problem is the app's page size, not the printer.
Fix 4: Clean the Gap Sensor
If the print method, calibration, and sensor type are all correct and it still skips, the gap sensor may be blocked by label dust or adhesive. This is common on high-volume machines or in dusty environments.
- Turn off the TE200 and unplug it
- Open the cover, remove the roll, and locate the gap sensor in the label path
- Wipe the sensor and the platen roller with a cotton swab dampened in 99% isopropyl alcohol
- Let it dry 1–2 minutes, reload the roll, and run the FEED-button calibration again

Bonus: Faint or Patchy Print, Not Fully Blank
If the TE200 prints but the result is faint, streaky, or patchy rather than fully blank, it's usually a darkness or ribbon issue rather than calibration:
- Darkness too low: raise the darkness/heat setting in the TSC Diagnostic Tool or the driver.

- Wrinkled or slipping ribbon: re-seat the ribbon so it tracks flat, and make sure the take-up core is winding tight.
- Direct-thermal loaded upside down: the heat-sensitive coating must face the printhead — flip the roll if a fingernail scratch on the top surface leaves no mark.
